Discover The 8 Clairs: Unlock Your Gifts

💫 Personal Reflections
When I was around 8 years old, my family moved into an old, beautiful home. It had French doors, a wraparound porch, and so much character. I loved it, but the moment I stepped through the threshold, I just knew something was there.
The energy felt heavy. Thick. I had no logical reason to feel that way, but I could sense it clearly. It was telling me something supernatural was in the home. That was my first experience with claircognizance (clear knowing) and clairsentience (clear feeling).
Not long after, I saw the spirit: a tall, solid black, cloaked figure. That was my first true experience with clairvoyance (clear seeing). Needless to say, we didn’t stay in that house very long.
Years later, I found out that the previous residents had actually asked for the home to be exorcised due to unexplained activity.
Well… the exorcism didn’t work. 😅

🌟 The Clairs
There are 8 primary psychic senses, commonly referred to as “the Clairs”:
- Clairvoyance (clear seeing) 👁️
- Clairaudience (clear hearing) 🎧
- Clairsentience (clear feeling) 💓
- Claircognizance (clear knowing) 🧠
- Clairalience (clear smelling) 🌹
- Clairgustance (clear tasting) 🍋
- Clairtangency (clear touching / psychometry) ✋
- Clairempathy (clear emotional feeling) 🤍
Each one connects us to our intuitive self and the unseen world in its own way.
“Intuition is seeing with the soul.” – Dean Koontz
“Intuition is seeing with the soul.” – Dean Koontz
Even science may support this idea. Research has shown that intuition is tied to how the brain processes information, especially in the right hemisphere, which handles patterns, imagery, and preconceptual knowing (McCrea et al., 2010).
👁️ Clairvoyance – Clear Seeing
Clairvoyance is the ability to receive intuitive information through visual imagery. This might show up as mental pictures, symbols, flashes of light, or even full visions seen with your third eye. For some, it feels like imagining something but the images come uninvited and feel more vivid or symbolic. Rarely, people may also see things with their physical eyes, like spirits, shadows, or energy. If you’ve ever had a dream that came true, seen colors around people, or visualized a person or place before it appeared in your life, you may have already experienced clairvoyance.
🎧 Clairaudience – Clear Hearing
Clairaudience is the ability to hear intuitive guidance. This may sound like your own voice in your head, a word or name that pops in suddenly, or even external sounds when no one is around, like music, footsteps, or whispers. It’s not always loud or dramatic; sometimes it’s a gentle phrase that repeats in your mind until you pay attention. If you’ve ever heard a warning or a comforting word out of nowhere that turned out to be meaningful, that’s clairaudience at work.
💓 Clairsentience – Clear Feeling
Clairsentience means feeling energy and emotion that doesn’t necessarily belong to you. People with this gift often walk into a room and immediately sense the vibe, tense, peaceful, chaotic, heavy. You might feel the emotions of others as if they’re your own, or get chills and body sensations that signal something unseen. Empaths often experience clairsentience without realizing it’s a psychic ability.
🧠 Claircognizance – Clear Knowing
Claircognizance is that strong, sudden knowing that comes without explanation. It’s like information drops into your awareness out of nowhere, facts, answers, or truths that just feel right, even if you have no logical way to know them. You may blurt something out and later find it was exactly what someone needed to hear. If you’ve ever said, “I don’t know how I know, I just do,” you’ve experienced claircognizance. This gift often comes through fast insights, gut instincts, or spontaneous ideas.
🌹 Clairalience – Clear Smelling
Clairalience is the ability to receive psychic messages through scent. You might suddenly smell flowers, tobacco, perfume, or food with no physical source around you. Often, these scents are tied to memories, loved ones who’ve passed, or Spirit trying to get your attention. For example, smelling roses could signal a grandmother’s presence, or smoke might be a warning. It’s a subtle but powerful way Spirit communicates.
🍋 Clairgustance – Clear Tasting
Clairgustance is tasting something without putting it in your mouth. It can be a sudden flavor, like metal, sweetness, or a favorite dish of someone who has passed. This gift is often tied to mediumship, where a taste brings validation or connection to Spirit. Even though it’s one of the rarer clairs, it’s a unique way your intuition uses your physical senses to deliver a message.
✋ Clairtangency – Clear Touching (Psychometry)
Clairtangency is receiving impressions through touch. By holding an object, touching a photograph, or even shaking someone’s hand, you might get flashes of information, emotions, or history. Many psychics use this ability with objects to pick up the “energy imprint” left behind. If you’ve ever felt chills or vivid images just from holding something, you’ve experienced clairtangency.
🤍 Clairempathy – Clear Emotional Feeling
Clairempathy is the psychic gift of directly sensing and absorbing another person’s emotions as if they were your own. Unlike clairsentience, which is more about the overall vibe or energy of a space, clairempathy zeros in on emotions specifically. If someone feels grief, joy, or anger, you don’t just notice it, you feel it deeply in your own body. Many natural empaths have this gift, often without realizing it’s part of their intuitive abilities.

🧘♀️ Reclaiming Your Intuition
Throughout my life, I’ve had experiences with all four Clairs. One big thing I’ve learned is this: it’s very easy to dismiss them, especially when you’re taught from a young age that they “aren’t real.”
We often have to unlearn that belief system before we can begin to trust our inner senses again.
“We are all born intuitive. It’s the world that teaches us to doubt it.”
Once you begin to notice these subtle nudges, those gut feelings, those little flashes of insight, you can stop, acknowledge them, and begin strengthening that connection. The more you tune in, the more they show up.
I truly believe we’re all born with intuitive gifts. It’s not about being special, it’s about being open. The journey is simply about remembering what’s already within you. If you’ve ever had a moment where something didn’t make sense logically, but you felt it anyway… you’ve already had a Clair moment.
The more you trust it, the more it grows.
Mantra
“I trust my inner senses. My intuition is real, and it always guides me with love and truth.”
Journal prompt:
Think back on a time when you had a gut feeling, a sudden knowing, or sensed something before it happened.
- How did it show up?
- Which Clair does it connect to?
- What would you do differently now that you know it was intuition speaking?
Q: Do I have to be born with the Clairs, or can I develop them?
A: Everyone is born with intuitive senses, but many people tune them out over time. With practice, awareness, and trust, these gifts can grow stronger at any stage of life.
Q: How do I know if I’m imagining things or if it’s a Clair?
A: The Clairs often feel subtle but consistent. Imagination usually fades quickly, while intuitive impressions feel more vivid, surprising, or meaningful. With practice, you’ll learn to tell the difference.
Q: Can I have more than one Clair?
A: Yes. Most people naturally use a mix of Clairs, though one may feel stronger than the others. The more you pay attention, the more you’ll notice how they work together.
Q: Why do the Clairs sometimes show up when I least expect them?
A: Intuition doesn’t always follow our timing. Often it slips in during quiet moments or when your mind is relaxed, because that’s when you’re most open to receiving.
Q: What if a Clair experience feels scary or overwhelming?
A: It’s okay to feel that way. Take a step back, ground yourself, and set clear boundaries with your energy. You can choose when and how to engage with your intuition.
Q: Do the Clairs always feel the same every time?
A: Not always. Sometimes they’re strong and obvious, other times subtle and gentle. The more you pay attention, the easier it gets to recognize the different ways they show up.
