Clairsentience is my absolute favorite psychic sense! It’s the ability to feel energy, emotions, and intuitive information from outside your physical body — from people, places, spirits, and even objects.
This gift often shows up through:
- Feeling someone else’s emotions as if they were your own
- Sensing physical pain, tension, or discomfort in your own body that’s not yours
- Perceiving energy like texture — dense, warm, heavy, or electric
- Receiving intuitive “downloads” through gut feelings, tingles, or pressure

I once sat next to a woman at a birthday party, and I immediately felt a heavy cloud around her — like emotional smog. It wasn’t mine. I could feel past trauma being released from her, almost like it was still hanging in the air. I didn’t say anything, but the energy was telling me she had recently started therapy and was actively working through her healing. An empath may have picked up on her mood, but with clairsentience, I could feel the energy itself — its location, tone, and purpose. That’s the difference. 🌀 The Different Layers of Clairsentience
Clairsentience often overlaps with other intuitive senses, but here are a few core ways it can show up:
🔹 Emotional Clairsentience
You feel what others feel — sadness, excitement, anger, grief — almost instantly. This is especially common in sensitive people and empaths. It can be helpful for connection and healing, but overwhelming without strong energetic boundaries.

You might suddenly feel someone’s physical symptoms — like a headache, sore throat, or tension in the body — without being sick yourself. This information is temporary, meant to be sensed and interpreted.

Beyond emotions or pain, you can sense the texture of energy. Rooms might feel dense, electric, peaceful, or cold. You may even read the energy of objects (this is known as psychometry) or notice spiritual presences by how they feel.

Sometimes, you’ll receive direct guidance from spirit through feeling — a warmth in your heart, a gut pull to go a certain direction, or a wave of peace that lets you know you’re on the right path.
One of the biggest challenges is discerning which feelings are truly yours and which belong to someone or something else. This is why self-awareness and grounding practices are so important — the clearer your own energy is, the easier it is to interpret everything else.
🧪 Let’s Try Some Exercises
Group Practice
Have one person stand facing a wall while someone else stands quietly behind them.
The person facing the wall tries to sense who is behind them and describe their energy — then guesses who it is. This is a great way to begin tuning into energy without relying on visuals.
Everyday Sensing
Try this at home: When someone walks into a room (pet, partner, child), try sensing who it is before you see them. I practiced this with my cats all the time — it was fun and super effective for building clairsentience!
Energy Mapping Meditation
Sit in stillness and sense the energy in your room. Ask yourself: Where does the energy feel heavier? Lighter? Calm? Buzzy? Focus on what these sensations are telling you. Repeat this in the same room occasionally, so you can detect energetic shifts over time.
Energy in Places
Whenever you visit a new space — a store, a friend’s house, even your backyard — pause and tune in: How does it feel here? Where is the energy strongest? What emotion or memory comes up? The more you practice, the stronger your awareness will become.
💡 Tip: Your intention matters. Set the goal to enhance this sense and trust yourself in the process. Consistency and self-belief are key!
